About the Artist

Kara Baylor was born in 1981 in Trenton, New Jersey. She earned her BFA from Tyler School of Art in 2004. Her formal training spans a broad spectrum of disciplines including drawing & painting, black & white film photography, digital imaging, sculpture, ceramics, glass-blowing, and metals & jewelry, which became her major focus.

“I draw much of the inspiration for my pieces from the materials themselves, as well as from forms occurring in nature. Often in the formative period of a project, I find myself virtually immersed in silver chain, wire, pieces of plastic, springs, screws – even scraps left over from previous projects. The whole process is almost meditative, as I sit with my developing concept in mind, handling the materials until inspiration strikes.”

Kara currently resides in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where she is working toward the launch of her retail jewelry company. In addition, she collaborates on special projects with artist Dionn Reneé.
